Ripples in the night

Genre: Rock Released: 2024-11-14

I wanted a gothic metal track that felt like fighting something that lives inside you and never holds a fixed shape. “Ripples in the night” comes from those nights when I wake up still half inside whatever I was dreaming, unable to tell right away which version of me is the real one.

An inner demon rarely arrives as a recognizable monster. It arrives as a ripple, a passing disturbance in something deeper and older than yourself, one you barely disturb for a moment before the surface settles again, though never all the way.

I left the word “whipping” in on purpose, stuck to both the nights and the actions, because I didn’t want this to read as soft atmosphere. Fighting what we carry inside has a real edge, a small violence under the haze, and metal felt like the only honest genre to carry that weight without smoothing it over.

I never let the song resolve the conflict, because resolving it would have been a lie about how living with your own demons actually works. There are still mornings I wake up unsure which side of the ripple I ended up standing on, and I suspect that never fully changes.
