Los perros del Curro no me dejan dormir

Genre: Vallenato/Reggaeton Released: 2024-11-25

Without any shame, this song is simply a wind-up, a tease, what we call in Colombia a “mamadera de gallo.” It’s the vallenato adaptation of an old joke, a real classic, the one about “Los perros del Curro no me dejan dormir” (Curro’s dogs won’t let me sleep), dropped into a tragicomedy that’s equal parts neighborhood life and dental visit: thanks to the numbing properties of the anesthesia, our narrator ends up acquiring one of the fundamental powers of every reggaetonero, turning every R into an L. And the outcome is inevitable: the dogs that wouldn’t let him sleep become “pelos” (hairs), and his neighbor El Curro transforms into an unsuspecting creature of an entirely different kind.

The philosophical reflection this song leaves me with is simple: the world needs to laugh. As of today, it’s the most-played track in my whole catalogue!

So go ahead, have a laugh, turn up the volume, and sing “Los perros del Curro no me dejan dormir” (better still once you’re back from the dentist 😂).
