The “Free” trilogy came out of the need to make a declaration of freedom, the kind you need, say, when a toxic relationship ends, in a moment of cathartic release, or simply as a political statement. Whatever context it gets applied to, the intention is for it to be useful to you.

So, out of the ocean of AI came three pearls for this project, which, by design, share most of their lyrics but are set apart by a musical style spanning the late 1960s to the late 1970s, moving from Soul to Funk. That’s why they were given names tied to the fictional dates of 1968, 1973, and 1978.

This is “Free! 1968,” the first version in this trilogy. It’s a tribute to the flow of artists like Aretha Franklin, whose iconic “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” made her own declaration of freedom, showing how that right can be carried out through the musical roads of Soul.
