Ata Fucha

Of everything I’ve released, this is one of the pieces where, beyond my music-production hobby, I brought in my profession and simply expressed myself as an anthropologist in a music studio. “Fucha Ata” is sung in Muysccubun, the language of the Muisca people, and names Bachue directly, the creator mother who emerged from Lake Iguaque carrying a child, and who then, together with him, populated the land.

The part I’m quietly proudest of, even more than the mythology, is the math hidden inside the numeral words in the lyrics. Ata (1), bosa (2), mica (3), muyhica (4), hisca (5) aren’t just Muisca counting words to me; I arranged them so that “ata ata bosa mika” invokes the start of the Fibonacci sequence, and let it keep building outward from there. The myth of Bachue is a myth about proliferation, one woman and one child becoming an entire people, and Fibonacci is the mathematics of exactly that kind of growth, each generation built from the sum of the two before it. Encoding one inside the other wasn’t a trick I did for effect. It’s genuinely how I see the world, myth and number as two dialects describing the same pattern.

I chose New Age because the chant needed esoteric room to breathe, letting the Fibonacci numbers land more like an invocation than a cold formula.

And then Enya’s voice showed up in the render, unrequested, never typed into any prompt, carrying the invocation as if she’d been singing to Bachue her whole career. I didn’t ask for it. I’m not worthy of that kind of attention!
